🔧 MAN Energy Solutions in Germany to Launch Methanol Engine Retrofits in 2025 🌱

Germany's MAN PrimeServ, the after-sales brand of MAN Energy Solutions (MAN ES), will launch a retrofit package in 2025 to convert conventional MAN four-stroke engines to dual-fuel methanol operation. The package, tested since summer 2024 in Augsburg, Germany, will initially allow the conversion of MAN 48/60 engines to the methanol-capable MAN 51/60DF type, featuring the latest control and safety systems.

The first conversions are planned for a pilot customer in autumn 2025, with general market availability following. This initiative aims to support climate-neutral shipping by enabling the use of green methanol, known for its favorable energy density. Stefan Eefting, Head of MAN PrimeServ Germany, and Bernd Siebert, Head of Retrofits & Upgrades, emphasized the economic and environmental benefits of retrofitting existing engines over new installations.

Additionally, MAN ES has signed a sub-agreement with China Classification Society (CCS) to support the development of the MAN 21/31 dual-fuel methanol engine.
