US Cheniere Energy misses core profit estimates on lower LNG margins 📉
Cheniere Energy (LNG.N) reported disappointing second-quarter results, missing core profit estimates due to weaker margins in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. The company struggled with lower natural gas prices, which have dropped around 16% this year due to higher global inventories and reduced demand forecasts.
Revenue for the quarter ended June 30 fell to $3.04 billion, down from $3.92 billion a year earlier. Cheniere's adjusted core profit of $1.32 billion also fell short of the $1.35 billion expected by analysts from LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group), highlighting the financial challenges faced by the LNG producer amidst a shifting market landscape.
