Andritz Will Be Supplying Advanced Boiler Systems and Technology for German Sewage Sludge Incineration Plant 🔥♻️
Andritz, a global leader in technology solutions, has been awarded a significant contract by MVA Bielefeld-Herford GmbH, a German waste management provider, to supply an EcoFluid bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) boiler system. The new system will be installed at a mono-incineration plant dedicated to the disposal and recycling of sewage sludge, scheduled to begin operation by June 2027.
This plant, which will process sewage sludge from around 80 municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony, will enable both environmentally friendly waste disposal and the recovery of valuable phosphorus. Phosphorus is a critical but non-renewable resource, and its recycling is mandated by the German sewage sludge regulation (AbfKlärV).
The advanced boiler system, designed to handle 35,000 tons of dry substance per year, is based on an adiabatic concept and includes a waste heat steam generator. This setup will produce steam, which will be directed to the existing waste incineration plant to generate electricity and heat for local district heating.
Alexander Krenzer, Project Manager at MVA Bielefeld-Herford, commented, “Andritz presented a technically advanced concept and impressed us with their expertise, performance, and commitment. We are sure that we have found a strong and reliable partner and look forward to implementing the project together.”
Benjamin Klammer, Sales Project Manager at Andritz, stated, “We are honoured to partner with MVA Bielefeld-Herford on this strategic project. This contract underscores our commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology that supports a circular economy. We look forward to a successful collaboration.”
