TotalEnergies Powers Up Largest Solar Farms in Texas with Battery Storage

TotalEnergies has started commercial operations for its two largest utility-scale solar farms in the U.S., located in southeast Texas. The Danish Fields and Cottonwood farms have a combined capacity of 1.2 gigawatts, contributing to the company’s renewable energy portfolio in Texas, which now totals 4 gigawatts.

Danish Fields boasts 720 megawatts of capacity from 1.4 million photovoltaic panels, while Cottonwood has 455 megawatts of capacity with 847,000 panels and 225 megawatt-hours of battery storage, expected to be operational by 2025. Long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with companies like LyondellBasell and Saint-Gobain will support their decarbonization goals. Danish Fields will also supply energy to TotalEnergies’ industrial sites in the Gulf Coast region.

In addition to its solar projects, TotalEnergies has acquired three gas-fired power plants in Texas, adding 1.5 gigawatts of flexible power production capacity.
