Saudi Arabia Launches Electric Jet Service in Partnership with German Lilium ✈️🌍🔋
Saudi Arabia is set to revolutionize air travel with the introduction of electric jet services, following the announcement of a collaboration with German manufacturer Lilium. Saudia Airlines has ordered 50 Lilium jets, each costing approximately $7 million, with an option for an additional 50. The first aircraft is expected to be operational by 2026.
The Lilium jets feature innovative vertical take-off and landing capabilities, allowing them to operate from helipads in urban areas without traditional runways. This initiative aims to contribute to zero-carbon aviation and enhance connectivity between major cities like Jeddah and Riyadh, as well as nearby tourist destinations within a 175 km radius.
Lilium envisions larger electric aircraft for commercial use by 2035, targeting a market segment that could electrify about 50% of air passengers globally. This partnership positions Saudi Arabia as a potential leader in sustainable aviation technology
