Meet France's Largest Anaerobic Digestion Unit: BioBéarn by TotalEnergies 🇫🇷💡

TotalEnergies launched BioBéarn, France’s largest anaerobic digestion unit, in Mourenx, in the Lacq basin 🌍. With an annual biomethane production capacity of 160 GWh, BioBéarn converts 220,000 tons of local organic waste into renewable, carbon-neutral biomethane ⚡, meeting the energy needs of 32,000 people while reducing CO₂ emissions by 32,000 tons each year 🌱.

Developed with over 200 local farmers and partners 👩‍🌾👨‍🌾, BioBéarn sources waste within a 40-kilometer radius, producing 200,000 tons of digestate, a natural fertilizer that cuts chemical fertilizer use by 5,000 tons annually 🌾.

As part of its decarbonization commitment, TotalEnergies signed an agreement to supply 100 GWh of biomethane to Saint-Gobain France over three years starting in 2024 🏭, helping to reduce industrial emissions.

BioBéarn is a key step in TotalEnergies’ mission for sustainable, local energy, reinforcing its leadership in France’s renewable biogas sector 🌿✨.
