🌍✨ SMD3 and Waga Energy Partner to Launch Innovative renewable natural gas (RNG) Project in Southwestern France 🇫🇷♻️

SMD3, the public waste management authority in Dordogne, and Waga Energy, a global leader in renewable natural gas (RNG) production, have partnered to produce RNG at the Saint-Laurent-des-Hommes landfill in Southwestern France. The project will use Waga Energy’s WAGABOX® technology to convert landfill gas into RNG, providing a renewable alternative to fossil fuels.

Expected to produce 57,000 MMBtu (16.7 GWh) of RNG annually, the facility will supply energy to 3,000 local households. By injecting RNG into the natural gas network, it will reduce CO₂ emissions by 4,000 tons annually, with commissioning set for 2027. Currently processing 75,000 tons of waste annually, the landfill’s transition from biogas-to-electricity to RNG represents a significant improvement in energy efficiency.

SMD3 President Pascal Protano called the project “a new step forward in Dordogne’s energy transition,” while Waga Energy CEO Mathieu Lefebvre described it as a “pioneering solution” offering a local, sustainable alternative to fossil gas. This collaboration is a milestone in transforming waste into renewable energy, advancing Dordogne’s sustainability goals.
