Germany and France are making strides in grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), with landmark projects set to redefine their energy landscapes.

In Germany, Eco Stor's 103.5MW/238.5MWh Eco Power One in Schleswig-Holstein will be one of the country’s largest BESS installations when it comes online in January 2025. The project, supported by flexibility provider Entelios and optimiser enspired, highlights Germany’s accelerating focus on large-scale energy storage and optimisation.

In France, Alpiq has acquired a 100MW/200MWh BESS from Harmony Energy, tying as the largest project in the country. This acquisition underscores France’s dedication to enhancing grid stability and supporting renewable integration.
