💧🇩🇪 Germany's Hydrogen Core Grid Construction Set to Begin in 2025
Germany is set to start building the first 525 kilometres of its hydrogen core grid in 2025, marking significant progress in its decarbonisation efforts. Gas operators have assured there are no anticipated delays in the project, which aims to convert 507 kilometres of existing gas pipelines and construct an additional 18 kilometres for hydrogen transport.
The project, part of Germany’s energy transition strategy, is a step toward creating a 9,040-kilometre hydrogen grid by 2032. Costing around €19 billion, the network will connect hydrogen production, consumption, storage, and import hubs across all federal states. Private investors will cover the costs, supported by capped grid fees from the state.
