Shell launches 100 MW renewable hydrogen electrolyser in Germany 🚀

Shell Deutschland GmbH has announced the final investment decision for REFHYNE II, a 100 MW proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer at Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland. Scheduled to commence operations in 2027, the electrolyzer will produce up to 44,000 kilograms of renewable hydrogen daily, utilizing renewable electricity. This project is a significant step in Shell’s commitment to decarbonize its operations and offer low-carbon products, supported by EU policies and funding from the Horizon 2020 program. Shell's investment in REFHYNE II aligns with its strategy to shift towards low-carbon energy solutions and follows the success of the 10 MW REFHYNE I project.
